Dr. Brian Thomas is the founder of Lead Inspire Teach, Lead Inspire Teach ( LIT) is the catalyst for systemic organization change. LIT is sparking conversation on instructional practices and intentional leadership. Dr. T (as his students would say) has been involved in education for over 20 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Education from Southern University, Master of Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans and Harvard University Urban Leadership Consortium certification. Dr. Thomas earned his Doctorate in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in school policy, from Vanderbilt University (Fall 2020). After graduating from college, Dr. Thomas taught Science at the secondary level in the inner city of New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was voted Teacher of Year as a first-year teacher. After many successful years of academic achievement inside of the classroom, Dr. Thomas decided it was time to move the needle in a different capacity. Therefore, Dr. Thomas was selected to assist in the office of School Improvement at the district level. During his tenure as a School Improvement Specialist, the schools under Dr. Thomas’ leadership made significant performance gains, so much, that his strategies for student achievement became a district wide initiative.
As a result of Dr. Thomas’ continued success, he was appointed as a school turn around administrator in one of the district’s lowest performing schools. Under his leadership, student achievement increased by 30%, and the graduation rate increased from 65% to 85%.
Dr. Thomas has also been involved with and chaired a number of committees throughout his career. He has served in various admin/coordinator roles, including: Asst. Principal, Title I Coordinator, Exceptional Education Student Support, Principal, Chief of Academics, led technology initiatives, facilitated Social Emotional Learning education programs, and has played a critical role in many aspects of educational professional developments. Dr. Thomas believes that all students should be taught like it’s possible, as he would say, “the data may say no, but your heart should say yes”. Dr. Thomas also believes that strong schools have strong leadership, and students deserve the best there is to offer. Failure should not be an option.
